SunbeltLabs detects exclusive new forms of Trojan malicious code

CLEARWATER, Fla. — Sunbelt Software, a little while ago part of the GFI Software family, today announced the top 10 ut~ prevalent malware threats for the month of July 2010. The record, compiled from monthly scans performed by Sunbelt Software’s award-alluring anti-malware solution, VIPRE® Antivirus, and its antispyware tool, CounterSpy®, is a good of SunbeltLabs™.

Sunbelt Software ThreatNet™ statistics for the month of July mask that Sunbelt’s customers were under attack throughout the month especially by Trojans and the Downad/Conficker worm. Trojans detected as Trojan.Win32.Generic!BT were the supreme detection with 29.08 percent of the total. Trojan.Win32.Meredrop is a generic exposure for a number of Trojans that install and run a variety of malware on a victim’s machine. They are usually packed and may keep in check multiple Trojans, backdoors and worms. Trojan.Win32.Generic!SB.0 is a generic detection for password-stealing Trojan horse programs that install keyloggers. Trojan.Win32.Malware.a is a detection for a variety of malicious code.

“Trojan.Win32.Generic!BT is a generic peril that covers a lot of malicious applications. About 120,000 traces are identified in a state of being liable to that detection by VIPRE’s signature-based, heuristic or behavioral mechanisms,” said Francis Montesino, manager of Sunbelt’s malware processing team.

“Very frequently it identifies the downloaders that are used with rogue security programs. These are in like manner called ‘scareware.’ Once they get downloaded, the rogues pretend to investigate your computer for malware then display false warnings that the organization is infected.
